The recent building work has enabled a dedicated sewing room to be opened. The ‘Sewing for Sustainability Program’ started in June 2010.
Mothers and older female siblings of students of the Bright Stars School receive six months sewing training in the new sewing centre. Upon completion, SLUM and EchoStars will help the mothers to find employment in the local garment industry or join the BrightStars Schools sewing centre where they can sew products that are sold by SLUM and EchoStars to raise funds for the school.
The program aims to offer these women the opportunity to pay off the purchase price of a sewing machine through the products they make so they can become self supporting.
Visit our on line shop today. By supporting this shop you directly help these women achieve self sustainability.
